Embattled Johnson LOSES trust of Tory voters ‘Can you hear that clock ticking Boris?'

In a poll of 1,968 Express.co.uk readers, held from December 3 to 7, 53 percent of voters said the Prime Minister is losing voters’ trust. A voter going by ‘boundrygate’ commented: “Well his incompetence has lost him and the Tories my vote. Roll on the next election. Hopefully someone with guts and integrity will stand.”

Another, nicknamed ‘Topp Gunn’ said: “Can you hear that clock Boris? Tick-Tock.”

But other readers said Mr Johnson just needs to be reminded to "buck up" as the Tories are "messing up on a few fronts".

The results come as another scandal breaks in No 10, after leaked footage shows senior Downing Street staff laughing about a Christmas party that broke Covid rules.

The leaked video is thought to have only worsened Britons’ trust of the Prime Minister after he attempted to conceal paid advocacy corruption last month during the Owen Paterson scandal.

A senior Conservative told the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg the Owen Paterson affair showed the Prime Minister "didn't think the rules applied to his friends", adding: "This video demonstrates that's widely shared in No 10 by senior political advisers.

“People prevented by the Government from seeing loved ones at end of their life will conclude they were taken for fools."

Fresh criticism has also been raised this week over the Government’s handling of the Afghanistan crisis – in which Pen Farthing’s dogs were evacuated whilst desperate people were left behind.

Letters of no confidence were filed against the Prime Minister at the end of November, and further Tory rebellion is on the horizon as multiple ministers have publicly spoken out against Mr Johnson in recent weeks.

When asked whether Mr Johnson is losing control of the Tory party, 45 percent of voters said he is, 50 percent said he is not and five percent weren’t sure.

A significant portion of voters said that they had decided to move their allegiance to the new Reform UK party led by Richard Tice.

Reader Danny Hakim said: “The Reform party will take up the slack that Boris and the Tories are losing. The people who voted Conservative were led to believe Boris was taking back control, how wrong they were.”

Another, nicknamed ‘Grimreaper’, said: “If he was to keep his promise and take back full control and ditch the EU completely then I would vote Conservative again, otherwise it will be the Reform party.”

Franks 2 said: “We desperately need a Party that will ACTUALLY serve the Country.”
