KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan was called in by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in investigations, the agency confirms.

In a statement on Sunday (Dec 12), Sarawak MACC said claims of a car chase or that Voon was arrested were not true.

"MACC authorities in Kuching had tried several times to contact Voon but failed. On Dec 12, MACC traced and met him in the Kenyalang Park area,” said the Commission.

"MACC authorities explained to him that he needed to go to the MACC office to assist in investigations," it added.

The Commission also said Voon was served with a notice to appear and cooperate with MACC as required under Section 30(1)(a) of the MACC Act.

"Voon had given his cooperation and appeared at the MACC office in Kuching," it said, adding that MACC would always act ethically and professionally in carrying out its duties.

Earlier Sunday, Voon had claimed that he was stopped by an unmarked vehicle while driving on his way to a campaign event.

In a video posted on Facebook, he also said he was under arrest by the MACC.
