A 13-year-old male student has been charged with disorderly conduct after he threatened a shooting at Culver School in Niles, police said.
The school notified Niles police Friday of the incident at Culver, according to a police statement. Culver, at 6901 W. Oakton, is the sole school in Niles Elementary School District 71.
Niles Police Deputy Chief Nick Zakula said the student made the threat verbally, and a third party relayed the threat.
Police and school staff participated in an investigation leading to the charges being filed against the student, police said.
Zakula said there were no firearms in the student’s home, and there appeared to be no immediate threat to anyone. The student was released to a parent, according to police.

Police are not releasing certain details of the incident in order to protect the student’s identity, Zakula said.
The case was referred to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office and will be handled as a juvenile matter, police said. A court date is pending.
On Monday, police officers were in the Culver area as a precautionary measure, according to police.
This is the second incident at a Niles school in about a week. On Friday, a 12-year-old female student at Gemini Middle School was also charged with disorderly conduct after she was identified as sending out a disturbing message over SnapChat on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
In the SnapChat post, the student was pictured with a firearm threatening to shoot people at the school, police said.
