UTSUNOMIYA -- One person has been injured after a lightweight car drove into a McDonald's restaurant in Utsunomiya, the capital of east Japan's Tochigi Prefecture, at about 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 13.
A part-time employee, 39, at the McDonald's Utsunomiya Kamitomatsuri branch who was on break sustained minor injuries.
According to Utsunomiya Chuo Police Station, the car's driver was a 59-year-old company employee from the Tochigi Prefecture city of Nikko. She was reportedly trying to park in a family restaurant next to the McDonald's outlet when she accelerated the vehicle and collided into the fast-food restaurant.
She is reported to have told police, "I drove forward while looking at the parking space behind me, and crashed."
Officers at the station are investigating a detailed cause.
