       68 pc of applicants fail to meet age, educational requirements

       KUWAIT CITY, Dec 13: The latest educational statistics revealed that the number of applicants for the position of cleaner – vacancy announced by the Ministry of Education recently – reached 4,289 Arabs and Asians; while 2,902 (68 percent) of these applicants were excluded from the interview for failing to meet the age and educational certificate requirements, reports Al-Qabas daily.

       The daily obtained a copy of the statistics which also showed that 1,021 applicants did not attend the personal interview even if they applied through the official website of the ministry and 82 were excluded from the interview due to the failure to present a waiver letter from their sponsors. According to the statistics, the concerned committees interviewed 632 applicants – 316 of whom are women while 148 passed the interview.

       The necessary steps were then taken to complete the contract procedures in preparation for assigning the successful applicants to schools and educational districts suffering from a dearth of cleaning workers. Sources told the daily that Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative Affairs Dr Abdul Mohsen Al-Huwailah submitted a detailed report on the measures taken to address the shortage of cleaners to Undersecretary of the ministry Dr Ali Al-Yacoub.

       In his report, Al-Huwailah disclosed that many applicants for the position of cleaner were rejected due to the exclusion of those holding a high school certificate or diploma, which negatively affected the recruitment process. He suggested including such applicants for the interview as the educational qualification reflects positively on the person and his level of knowledge. He pointed out this is important because the successful applicants will deal with school administrations and various departments in the ministry; hence, the need for them to be knowledgeable about their duties particularly the protection of documents and files.
