At least one lane was closed on the westbound carriageway between junction 20 - the A627(M) link - for Rochdale, Greater Manchester, and junction 19 for Heywood in the same county. The collision happened during rush hour today.

       Emergency services rushed to the scene and police slowed traffic on the westbound side. Jams were back to junction 21 for Newhey and Milnrow in Greater Manchester.

       In a tweet, Manc Traffic said: "M62 w/b j20-19 queues building and 1 lane closed."

       There were no official diversions in place at this stage, Manchester Evening News says, but some drivers left the motorway early.

       Drivers did exit though at junction 21 and used local roads through Rochdale, including A6193, A664 and A58 westbound to rejoin the motorway at junction 19 near Heywood.

       Eastbound traffic was slow due to onlookers, and backed up to Birch services near junction 19 for Heywood.

       There was no eastbound diversion and drivers were encouraged to remain on the motorway.

       It is unclear if anyone has been hurt in the crash and, if so, the nature and extent of the injuries have not been confirmed.
