Sajid Javid has stressed the need to "act now" to quell a surge in the deadly Omicron variant and stop a Christmas lockdown, but his MPs are not in agreement with him or the Prime Minister. Mr Johnson has personally lobbied Tory rebels to persuade them to back Plan B, as many threatened resignations over Covid passports. So far, the first hurdle has passed.
