TOKUSHIMA -- A 10-year-old girl in the west Japan prefecture of Tokushima died from head injuries after being hit by a large truck on her way to school on Dec. 16.
This aerial photo taken from a Mainichi Shimbun helicopter shows the scene of the accident where an elementary school student was run down by a large trailer truck in Komatsushima, Tokushima Prefecture, on Dec. 16, 2021. (Mainichi/Tatsuya Onishi)
The trailer truck hit fourth-grader Urumi Fujii when it was making a left turn at an intersection on a prefectural road in the city of Komatsushima at around 7:35 a.m. Tokushima Prefectural Police's Komatsushima Police Station arrested driver Akio Fukui, 53, a resident of the city of Naruto in the same prefecture, on the spot. Fujii is suspected of causing death by driving a motor vehicle. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations.
According to the police station, two other pupils nearby were not injured.
