SIBU: A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years’ jail and six strokes of the rotan by the Sarikei Sessions Court after he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault on his stepdaughter.

       Judge Stella Augustine Druce ordered that the sentence be served from the date of arrest on Dec 4.

       The accused was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

       The offences against the 15-year-old victim were committed at a longhouse in Julau.

       The case was prosecuted by DPP Jayniesa Lavang Jarit.
