KUALA LUMPUR: City police believe they have crippled two drug syndicates here with the seizure of over RM1mil worth of drugs and the arrest of six suspects.

City Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Asst Comm Sahar Abd Latif said they launched an anti-drug operation at about 10am on Tuesday (Dec 14).

"We arrested three male suspects in Brickfields and nearby areas and another male suspect in Shah Alam. They are aged between 22 and 36 years old," he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 17).

He said they first arrested one suspect at a luxury condominium in Pantai Dalam and were led to a house where the second suspect was arrested.

"We also seized 1.55kg of ganja buds worth RM155,600, eight ganja plants and a bag containing 720g of dried ganja leaves worth RM36,000.

"Further investigations led to the arrest of the third suspect at Shah Alam and the seizure of 2.99kg of ganja buds, four plastic packets containing 4.2g of ganja buds, and three packets containing seven ganja seeds," he said.

In a follow-up operation, another suspect was arrested at a supermarket along Jalan Kerinchi.

He said they also seized a car and a motorcycle.

"Our investigations revealed the syndicate was attempting to get in on a new trend by selling ganja buds which are of high value on the black market.

"The seeds were acquired from overseas and they used sophisticated technology to grow the plants," he said, adding that the syndicate sold each gram of ganja for RM100 and had a regular client base.

He said the syndicate had been active for at least three months.

In an unrelated case, ACP Sahar said police arrested a man and woman, aged 23 and 37 years old, respectively, at Residensi Rimbunan, Bandar Baru Seri Petaling at around 11.55pm on Wednesday (Dec 15).

"We seized 115g of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) worth RM5,750.

"The two then led police to another premises a few minutes later and we found 8.81kg of MDMA powder worth RM440,850; 558 bottles of MDMA liquid worth RM83,700; 63g of ketamine worth RM9,450; 190 ecstasy pills worth RM3,200; and 120 erimin 5 pills worth RM2,375," he said.

Investigations found that the syndicate had been active for at least six months.

He said it was suspected of selling the drugs to customers at entertainment outlets.
