TANGKAK: The hunt for a Rohingya man known as “Long Tiger” continues on the fourth day since his escape from the Magistrate’s Court lock-up here.

Tangkak OCPD Supt Mohd Fadhil Minhat said the police are still looking for the suspect, 32-year-old Abdul Hamim Ab Hamid.

"The man has yet to be found as of now.

"We will continue our efforts to look for the suspect," he said when contacted Saturday (Dec 18), declining to give more details.

On Wednesday (Dec 15), the suspect escaped through the main entrance of the courthouse at around 11.55am before his hearing for a case under Section 388 of the Penal Code for extortion.

The suspect was picked up from the Sungai Udang Prison in Melaka and brought to Tangkak to attend the court session.

“The police personnel who were ushering the handcuffed suspect to court only realised that he was trying to escape after noticing him running out the door towards the gate,” he told a press conference on Wednesday.

Supt Mohd Fadhil added that four police personnel and court security guards chased the suspect but he managed to run towards the woods.

"The policemen who were tasked with ushering the suspect to court would also be held responsible and investigated under Section 233 of the Code for negligence," he said.

The suspect, a bald man with a height of 160cm and weighing around 65kg, was last seen in a white T-shirt and brown pants.

The case is classified under Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping custody.

The suspect also has an ongoing hearing at the Muar Session’s Court for rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

Those with information can head to the nearest police station or call the Johor police hotline at 07-221 2999.
