KUALA LUMPUR: An Undi18 Special Task Force has been set up by MCA Youth that will work with the government throughout the Undi18 implementation process.

Its Youth chief Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting said since the last annual general meeting (AGM), the wing had been committed to promoting the implementation of Undi18 for the 15th General Election (GE15).

“We are very happy with the positive development involving Undi18. As the Opposition back then (when Pakatan Harapan ruled Putrajaya), we were committed to working together and supporting the government to make Undi18 a reality.

“Right now there is only the final step left to allow Undi18 to be fully realised,” she said at MCA Youth’s 57th AGM yesterday.

Wong noted that Undi18 would enable more Malaysians to fulfil their responsibilities as citizens.

The Undi18 MCA Youth special task force will be led by the wing’s legal bureau chief Ryan Ho, civil society movement president Heng Zhi Li and central committee member Kong Suet Ping.

“This special task force will liaise with youth groups and gather information for two-way communication, with the decision-making unit from the government.

“MCA Youth in each state will also set up its own special task force to work together and supervise to ensure that the implementation of Undi18 in each state runs smoothly,” she said.

Wong believed that the electorate would see a 40% increase as a result of Undi18.

As such, she said there should be more young candidates from MCA Youth contesting in the next general election to attract the support of the youth.

The implementation of Undi18 and automatic voter registration took effect on Dec 15.

Barisan Nasional Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki gave a pre-recorded speech for the AGM.

He applauded the party’s success in the Melaka election which had contributed to the coalition’s landslide win.

The experience in Melaka showed that they had to work as a team, he said, adding that they had to strengthen their fighting spirit as a family in Barisan.

All resolutions proposed during the Youth AGM, too, were passed. These had touched on party affairs, politics, government affairs and the economy.
