IPOH: The Perak government will deploy help for Selangor’s flood victims, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad (pic).
The Perak Mentri Besar said the help will be based on Perak’s available assets at the moment.
“I have discussed the matter with state Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suadi Abdul Rahim to contact Selangor and Pahang’s state secretaries to let us know what sort of help is needed for the flood victims in both states,” said Saarani.
“It is important to have enough information to send the right kind of help, as we are worried that there might be overlapping assistance. For example, sending boats without knowing if there is anyone who can operate the vehicle,” he added when speaking at his office at the State Secretariat Building here on Monday (Dec 20).
Earlier, the number of evacuees seeking shelter at flood relief centres in five states - Pahang, Kelantan, Melaka, Perak and Negri Sembilan was released.
In Pahang, a total of 25,669 people were evacuated to 239 PPS on Monday morning, and Selangor has11,418 victims sheltering at PPS.
Saarani said what needs to be done in Selangor is to clean up after the heavy floods, including clearing dry mud.
“I have also alerted all local authorities to check with affected neighbouring states on what help is needed,” he said.
“Among the things that we think might be tough to do is cleaning the dry mud. We will send help once we have enough information,” added Saarani, who then said that the situation in Perak is still under control.
On a related topic, Saarani said that he has seen a report from Tenaga Nasional Berhad on Sunday (Dec 19) stating that the water level at the Temengor Dam is at 242.23m, and the warning level is at 247m.
“At the moment, the water level at three other dams in the state, namely Bersia, Kenering and Chenderoh, are still controlled and below the warning level,” he said.
