PETALING JAYA: The MCA's Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) has mobilised volunteers nationwide to render not just food aid but also provide the manpower to help flood victims to clean up their homes.
MCA spokesperson Mike Chong Yew Chuan said they launched their relief operation on Dec 20 at affected areas in Selangor and Pahang.
“Currently, about 1,000 food packages and more than 150 dry foodstuff have been distributed to the victims in Selangor, Pahang and Melaka.
“Yesterday, we distributed more than 300 boxes of dried food and 400 bottles of mineral water to the disaster area in Bentong, Pahang.
“Today, CRSM Negri Sembilan will provide 500 lunchbox food packages to be distributed to the flood victims in Kg Baru Hosapa, Titi. We will also provide 200 to 300 dry food boxes and mineral water as well as other relief items to be sent to relief centres in Pahang,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday (Dec 21).
Chong added that CRSM volunteers have also started to clean up several areas where the floodwaters have receded including in Bentong, Kuantan and in Lembing.
Apart from this, he said they have also launched a fundraising campaign on the GoCare Malaysia’s website to help the flood victims, adding that they have so far raised RM34,000.
He also urged youths to join the GoCare Youth Volunteer group which they can register online so that they can jointly render help to the victims of this disaster.
“The disaster relief operation launched by the MCA will continue until after the floods as we are aware that there are more things that have to be done including the cleaning and repairing of the homes of these victims,” he said.
Chong said that MCA will adjust their relief operations according to the disaster situation.
“After the floods recede, cleaning and repairing will be our main task in providing assistance. We urge the youths throughout the country who wish to volunteer to come forward and join the GoCare Youth Volunteers to come together to help those affected by this tragedy,” he said.
He added that CRSM has also collated the emergency contacts of various units that can be found on their official Facebook page.
He said this information can be a guide for the victims or anyone for that matter, to contact the rescue services or non-governmental organisations to seek help.
