MELAKA: A 42-year-old man died in full view of his wife and teenage daughter while replacing a punctured tyre along the North-South Expressway (NSE), near Alor Gajah toll plaza here.
Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu identified the victim as Muhamad Zaki Redzwan from Skudai, Johor.
He said in the 7am incident on Tuesday (Dec 21), the victim alighted from his car to change the punctured tyre along the emergency lane when an oncoming lorry rammed him at KM218.7 (southbound) of the NSE.
"The victim was changing the rear tyre on the left of the driver's side while his 42-year-old wife and 15-year-old daughter were standing outside the car.
"The victim was killed on the spot," he said. Supt Arshad said the family was from Batu Gajah, Perak and were travelling to Skudai.
He said the lorry driver fled the scene and police were tracking him.
Supt Arshad said the victim's wife and daughter were still in trauma after witnessing the incident.
"We also urge those who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist us in our investigation," he added.
