Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said a total of 4,154 people nationwide have registered as volunteers following a recruitment drive on Monday (Dec 20).
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu launched the KBS Post-Flood Volunteers Squad at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on Sunday (Dec 19) before registrations opened the next day and closed at 6pm.
Selangor recorded the highest number of registrations for the volunteer squad at 925, followed by Perak (408), Johor (378) and Kedah (351).
“The Youth and Sports Department will contact the shortlisted volunteers and communicate with them, to deploy them to the assigned location to assist flood victims,” Ti told reporters at the Dusun Tua Institut Kemahiran Tinggi Belia Negara on Tuesday (Dec 21) after the ministry sent non-perishable food and 300 cartons of mineral water to the institute.
Ti said the Institute was also affected by the floods, and more than 600 students and 80 staff members were trapped in the building, and it also experienced unscheduled water supply disruption.
