A Yorkville police officer fatally shot a man while responding to a medical call at a home in the city Monday evening, officials said.
Illinois State Police are investigating the incident after police said they were summoned to a home at 8:37 p.m. in the 200 block of Leisure Street for a medical call with the Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District, Yorkville police said in a statement.
At the house, the individual became uncooperative and produced a handgun, according to a preliminary investigation, police officials said.
According to police in the statement, “fearing for his own safety, and the safety of other occupants inside the home,” the officer fired his gun, striking the individual around 8:50 p.m. Paramedics who were already at the home rendered aid, but the man was pronounced dead. A gun was recovered from the scene, police said.
No one else was injured during the incident, according to police.
