The Duke of Cambridge, 39, shared the festive film he, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and their children watch every Christmas in an interview on Monday. However, a new poll has found William’s top pick for a festive film is shared by the rest of the UK.

Speaking on the Radio Marsden podcast, the Duke said his favourite Christmas movie is ‘Elf’.

He said: "It's very funny and I keep watching it every Christmas, it still makes me laugh.”

He added his favourite Christmas song is ‘Feliz Navidad’ by Jose Feliciano, bur his favourite part of the holiday is the food.

The royal told the broadcaster: “Food is quite important to me at Christmas. I do tend to eat a lot at Christmas.

"There's always a tiny little bit of space left in my stomach somewhere for a bit more turkey or sausage or, you know, a bit of wine."

Meanwhile, data saw ‘Elf’ also named the UK’s favourite Christmas movie.

Research conducted by PokerListings.com analysed IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes scores, as well as Google search levels and Wikipedia page views, to see which Christmas movie is the UK’s number one fan favourite.

The 2003 film starring Will Ferrell has more than 30,000 Google searches a month.

In second and third place respectively were ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ and ‘Home Alone’.

Also featuring in the top 10 are classics ‘Love, Actually’ and ‘Last Christmas’.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for PokerListings said: “It’s great to see how diverse the market for Christmas movies is, with a variety of genres included on the list.

“Despite many new additions every year to the festive line up, many entries in the top ten are more than 20 years old now, which really emphasizes how timeless movies like ‘Elf’ and ‘Home Alone’ are and how they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”

       DON'T MISS

Last year, Mike Tindall offered insight into royal tradition on Christmas Day.

Speaking to JOE UK's House of Rugby podcast in 2020, he described what a traditional Sandringham Christmas is like for the Royal Family.

He said: “Yeah it is good. So Christmas Day is a little more quiet because it’s actually a cold buffet because they give everyone the day off, and their big day is Christmas Eve."

At the meal on Christmas Eve, he said that there are no Christmas crackers on the table - and the children are seated in another room.

Mike explained the family all sit around to watch the Queen’s speech together "with a little glass of something".
