KLANG: It must have been an uncomfortable moment for Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar when he was told by a flood victim that it was foreigners, as opposed to government agencies, that had helped her in her hour of need.
In a video making the rounds of social media, the elderly woman from Kuala Langat tells Noh, who was visiting the area, that no government agency had come to her aid when she was trapped in the floods.
“All the government agencies did not show up when we were in a critical situation.
“They only came when the water had receded. Why only come when the water had receded?’’ the woman asked Noh, who was visiting a flood relief centre in SMK Abdul Jalil in Hulu Langat Tuesday (Dec 22).
According to the woman, she had even asked her relatives to share her plight over social media but still no help had come their way.
She had added that only the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) was seen in the area during the height of the flood.
“But JPAM came with only three boats to cover the Hulu Langat area.
“Three boats were insufficient to rescue everyone here,’’ she lamented.
The woman said they were finally rescued by three Indonesian men who came in a boat to rescue residents, including children, trapped on the roof of a house.
“They are the ones who have helped us. Where were the government agencies?’’ the woman asked Noh.
She said the Indonesian men had worked until the wee hours of the morning rescuing the people trapped in her home.
Noh had been appointed to the Selangor National Security Council to replace Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari in November.
However, Amirudin was reinstated to the position recently by the Federal Government.
