The former Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle striker had encouraged people to get a booster vaccine in a video promoted by the Premier League. This prompted anti-vaccination protesters to gather and film themselves outside an address near Newcastle on Wednesday which they believed was his home.

       However, a local person seeing footage of the gathering online told PA News that the protesters had got the wrong house and Shearer no longer lives there.

       Fellow Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker condemned the comical error the protesters made as well as their cause on Twitter.

       He said: “Wrong house, wrong cause, all kinds of wrong”.

       In the video shared on social media three men and a woman gathered outside a gated property.

       After pressing an electronic buzzer, one member of the group posted documents into an external letterbox.

       Anti-vaccination protesters often share templates of supposedly legal documents that they then film themselves depositing.

       In the video the man who posted the documents expressed anger that celebrities such as Shearer were promoting covid vaccines.

       He said: “Everyone is going to get this, every celebrity, sick of you. Just causing more trouble for us, lies, all lying.”

       Northumbria police said they had no involvement in the incident.

       However, this isn’t the first time that anti-vaccine activists have gone to the wrong location.

       In August a group entered what they thought was a major BBC building seemingly unaware that the corporation had mostly left in 2013.

       Rather than entering the BBC’s news operation who they believe are promoting covid vaccines they gained access to Television Centre in west London predominantly rented by ITV.

       In October anti-vaxxers targeted the home of BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine.

       They attempted to serve Vine an “anti-vaxx writ” while he was out instead giving it to his wife.

       In the same month anti-vaccination activists also gathered outside the home of GP and broadcaster Dr Hillary Jones.
