Princess Charlene has not forgotten her royal duties despite the health struggles she has been coping with for the past year. The Monegasque royal has been recovering from a difficult ear, nose, and throat infection that kept her grounded in South Africa for over six months, and has since forced her to seek extra help away from Monaco. In a special Christmas message on behalf of The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, Charlene broke her silence and asked for support from the people to help "give an opportunity" to struggling children.

In a video shared on her personal Instagram account, the Monaco princess said: "This is a long-term commitment to give an opportunity to the future generations.

"So please join and support my foundation, a team of sports champions, corporations, and individuals all engaged in an effort to give our children the tools they need to live safe, happy, and successful lives through sport."

In the message accompanying the video, Princess Charlene wrote: "The feeling of giving, helping, and saving lives is what makes my foundation so special.

"Thank you to everyone around the world for your continued donations that allow us to grow from strength to strength.

"I hope this Christmas brings happiness in every aspect, as well as love throughout the season.

"May God bless each one of you endlessly. With all my love, Merci."

The Princely Palace confirmed this week Charlene is still "months from recovery" but will be able to reunite with husband Prince Albert, and twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques for Christmas.

The family was briefly reunited in November when the Princess made her way back to Monaco from South Africa but she shortly after left again to seek further help to regain her full health.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Princely court said: "The Princely Palace would like to share the following information regarding H.S.H. Princess Charlene's health.

"H.S.H. Princess Charlene is recuperating in a satisfactory and reassuring manner, although it may take a few more months before her health has reached a full recovery.

"H.S.H. Princess Charlene will be visited by H.S.H. Prince Albert II and Their Children during the Christmas holidays.

"Once her health is strong enough, the Princess looks forward to spending time with the Monegasques."

The Palace also renewed calls for privacy after Prince Albert last month insisted his wife required "tranquility and peace" in order to recover fully.

The statement added: "During this period of convalescence, the Princely Couple kindly request that their privacy and family environment remain well respected."

To mark the Christmas holidays, the Monegasque royal family released a special drawing of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene with Jacques and Gabriella in lieu of the traditional picture.

The twins can be seen standing in front of their parents, with Jacques wearing a blue suit jacket and suit, and Gabriella donning a pink tulle skirt with a white blouse.
