PETALING JAYA: National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers who are affected by the floods have been offered a three-month loan deferment, said Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

       The Higher Education Minister said this is following the flood situation that hit the country, causing massive losses including those of the PTPTN borrowers.

       "The affected borrowers can start to apply for the deferment from PTPTN starting from Dec 28, 2021 to March 31 next year. Further details about the implementation will be announced by PTPTN," she said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 25).

       She also noted that the decision was in line with the government's aspiration and commitment to helping members of the “Keluarga Malaysia” during this challenging period.

       "It is hoped that the deferment of PTPTN loans will ease the burden of affected borrowers," she added.

       The floods, triggered by days of heavy rain, have displaced some 50,000 people across the country.
