Princess Anne confirmed that she decided opted out of giving her children royal titles because of the several drawbacks to being officially styled. The Princess Royal also conceded there are "downsides" Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall would have had to face like Prince William and Prince Harry do on an everyday basis. Princess Anne however ensured to uphold other royal traditions as she sent her children to boarding school like most of their royal cousins.

       Princess Anne said: ”I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles.

       "So I think that was probably the right thing to do.”

       The List narrator Christine Liwag-Dixon, who discussed the comments Anne made, added: “However, Anne didn't strip away all family traditions, and, like her father and brother, she sent her children to boarding school from an early age.

       "She told Vanity Fair she's a firm believer in boarding school and its benefits — so don't think Anne is completely averse to royal traditions."

       She added: "She just has her own opinions. Everyone and their mother knows."

       However, Princess Anne is not the only royal child to have chosen not to give official titles to her children.

       Her youngest brother Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Countess of Wessex have brought up their children, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn without a title.

       Sophie told The Sunday Times: "We try to bring them up with the understanding that they are very likely to have to work for a living.

       "Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles. They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but it’s highly unlikely.”

       Sophie has ensured that her children gets the “non-Royal” life they deserve by attending “regular school” and going for “sleepovers and parties” at their friend’s house.

       The Queen offering titles to Princess Anne’s children was also a break from tradition as the use of royal titles is usually limited to male descendants of the monarch.

       Prince Edward, being the son of the Queen, could have had Louise and James styled as HRHs from birth, as his brother Prince Andrew did with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

       Princess Anne is Queen's second child and only daughter, and she is 17th in the line of succession.

       The Princess Royal is currently married to Sir Timothy Laurence, whom she married in December 1992.

       Anne was recently forced to miss out on Christmas celebrations at Windsor after Sir Timothy tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to self-isolate at Gatcombe Park, in Gloucestershire.

       However, the Queen was joined by Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, and Prince Andrew.
