PETALING JAYA: Help in the form of essential items and post-flood clean-up work are being channelled to flooded areas in Mentakab, Pahang, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Dr Wee, who visited Mentakab yesterday, said thousands of mattresses and pillows had been sent here to be distributed to flood victims by MCA Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) volunteers, who are helping with the clean-up.
“A team of volunteers from the Kuantan Port Authority (LPKtn) led by its deputy chairman Quek Tai Seong, also participated in this relief mission. We visited the flood victims in Kampung Baru Mentakab.
“Thank you LPKtn volunteers for your support and help.
“I also stopped by SMJK Hwa Lian Mentakab which was affected by the floods,” said Dr Wee, who was given a briefing by the school’s governing board chairman Datuk Hiang Ah Lee.
Dr Wee said the school was submerged in water up to nearly 3m from Dec 20 to 23, and all the furniture and computers, as well as books in the library, were destroyed.
Hiang and SMJK Hwa Lian principal Gan Geok Moi lauded Wong Tze Shiang who led CRSM and organised MCA Youth members, CRSM volunteers from all over the country and several volunteer fire brigades from Ayer Hitam, Simpang Renggam, Bukit Kepong and Kulai Besar, Johor to clean the school area for three consecutive days.
