KUALA LUMPUR: All state police chiefs and commissioners have been instructed to conduct more patrols in locations of public interest on New Year's Eve, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
The Inspector-General of Police said the patrols are meant to ensure compliance to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) and to prevent people from gathering.
"We will increase patrols and monitoring throughout New Year's Eve.
"Patrols will focus on places of public interest especially in areas where people usually gather during New Year's Eve," he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 31).
The country's top cop said action would be taken against those who violate the SOP.
"We advise the public to always comply with the SOP.
"Cooperation from all parties is vital as the pandemic is still a serious health threat that must be curbed," he said.
