KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah’s spread to Peninsular Malaysia is to ensure that it has allies that share the same political vision and confidence in Sabah and Sarawak, says Datuk Awang Ahmad Shah.
The party's Information chief said that it is not part of an agenda to wrest the prime minister's position, adding that Warisan hopes to provide alternative leadership for Malaysians.
“If we quit Warisan to join the state Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition, it will be the same as supporting Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia,” he said.
Awang said if these peninsula Malaysia-based parties can come into Sabah, there was no reason why Warisan cannot spread its wings there.
“The decision was made after proper discussion and agreement with the party's supreme council members,” he said.
He said with Warisan spreading its wings to Peninsular Malaysia, it does not mean that they will be contesting in all parliamentary seats during the next general election as they will only stand in selected seats.
Awang said Warisan has been consistent in the fight for Sabah's rights from the day it was formed, adding that it would continue to speak out about this until Sabah gets what it deserves as per the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
