KUALA LUMPUR: The Iranian community in Malaysia have come together to contribute relief supplies to express their solidarity with Malaysian flood victims.

The donation, consisting of hygiene kits, clothes and food, was handed over by Iranian ambassador Ali Asghar Mohammadi to Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (Mapim) president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid at the embassy yesterday.

Bernama reported that Mohammadi said the Iranian community would continue to assist their Malaysian brothers and sisters during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, Mohd Azmi said some of the relief supplies would be distributed directly to the flood victims in the Klang Valley and the remaining items channelled to its non-governmental organisation partners in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has also extended his condolences to affected families.

In his letter to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, al-Sisi also affirmed that his country stands in solidarity with Malaysia and its people during this challenging time.

“My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the victims. I pray for their souls to rest in peace, wishing the bereaved families patience and fortitude and the injured a speedy recovery,” he said in the letter that was made available to Bernama by Egypt’s Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
