MELAKA: Three trunk roads in the state have been shut to traffic after the routes became inaccessible due to floods, says Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
The Melaka Chief Minister identified the affected roads as Jalan Lubok China in Masjid Tanah; Jalan Angkasa Nuri, and Jalan Kuala Sunggah in Batang Melaka, both in Alor Gajah.
"These roads will remain closed until all three are declared safe while 19 flood relief centres have been opened in the state on Sunday (Jan 2)," he said on Sunday (Jan 2).
Sulaiman also said that more schools would be turned into flood relief centres once the Melaka Education Department gives the green light.
He said the additional relief centres are meant to accommodate flood evacuees if the situation deteriorates.
"We are rushing to open more of these relief centres at the selected school and hopefully the approval is given at once," he said.
Sulaiman added that Covid-19 screenings will also be conducted at all the relief centres and limit the number of evacuees at each of these centres.
"Hence, we need to have more of these centres as a pre-emptive measure in case the number of evacuees swells," he added.
