Camilla 75th birthday to be marked by special role - Duchess follows Charles' footsteps

This year, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall will take on the role of guest editor at Country Life magazine. The special edition is due to hit the shelves on July 13 this year, just a few days before Camilla turns 75 on the 17th. As a patron of Battersea Dogs and Cats and a lover of horses, it is likely these topics will be given pride of place in Camilla’s vision of the magazine.

She will also announce several “countryside champions” in the special edition, celebrating those who have made a significant contribution to rural life.

Tom Parker Bowles, Camilla’s son and a food writer for Country Life, said he was “delighted” his mother will be guest-editing an issue.

He joked: “I’m rather hoping she won’t try to muck about with my copy.”

The new edition will also feature two special royal reveals, with the Duchess sharing her favourite recipe and her favourite view.

However, a Royal source recently told The Telegraph the special edition “won’t be just horses and dogs and lovely countryside.

They added: “She wants to have a bit more about the challenges facing people, particularly for women.”

Country Life has often worked with the royals to celebrate their birthdays.

The Duchess’ husband, the Prince of Wales, has guest edited the magazine several times.

The edition he created for his 70th birthday in 2018 became the biggest selling in the publication’s history.

This followed on from his earlier guest edit in 2013 - for his 65th birthday.

His sister, the Princess Royal, guest edited the magazine to celebrate her 70th birthday in 2020.

This year's royal special edition of the magazine is part of the publication's 125th anniversary.

Mark Hedges, the magazine’s editor, described the Duchess’ involvement as a “great honour.”

He added that Camilla was a “passionate countrywoman.”

The Royal’s involvement with Country Life magazine goes all the way back to when it was first launched in 1897.

During that time, it frequently featured the Queen Mother on its front page, and would later work with the monarchy to release an authoritative book on the life of the beloved royal.
