A lifeless dog's head appeared to stare up at the cameraman from a rooftop in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the body of the white canine apparently missing.
But suddenly, its nose moved and waggled into what was actually the tail of a cat.
The cat had two black patches either side of its tail which created the illusion of eyes.
Its tail looked to be the dog's nose but when the cat stood it appeared to have a long back tail.
YouTube users were shocked to also find out that it wasn't a cat.
One said: "I thought it was a dog and was hoping that they'd come and rescue it!"
Another said "I can't believe my eyes!"
But another added: "I could see it was a cat! Classic cat position"
In another hilarious dog illusion, Ben Glews posed for a heart-warming photo with five-year-old bulldog Boss in bed at their home in Kingswinford, West Midlands, and wife Linda shared it online.

But the couple was mortified when the sweet picture went viral after people mistook Boss’ tiny member for his owner's.
Ben, 42, had his body mistaken for the pooch's as the dog's stretched-out frame created an optical illusion because of the unfortunate positioning.
Similarly, Redditors couldn't decide whether one picture posted was a creepy clown face or cute dog.
The image was first posted on Reddit where people battled it out in the comments over what they saw.
"I can alternate between dog & clown," one replied. "Took a minute to see the clown."
"My brain is fried," another joked.
