ALOR GAJAH: A 53-year-old woman has lodged a report against a restaurant worker who, she claims, posed as a policeman and borrowed money from her.
Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the woman befriended the 30-year-old man through Facebook in July.
He showed her a fake police authority card and face mask with the Polis Di-Raja Malaysia logo to convince her.
"We are still investigating the relationship between the two and whether the woman only made a police report after she was jilted by the suspect," he said on Thursday (Jan 6).
Supt Arshad said the woman, who works as a cleaner, lent the suspect money on several occasions.
"The woman claimed the suspect failed to settle a loan of RM8,000 before she decided to lodge a report at the Masjid Tanah police station," he said.
Supt Arshad added that his men, acting on the report, intercepted the suspect at a junction in Masjid Tanah here on Thursday before arresting him and confiscating several items, including the face mask.
He said the suspect had been remanded to assist investigations under Section 170 of the Penal Code for pretending to be a public servant.
