MELAKA: Police confiscated seven air rifles from a 37-year-old crane operator at his house in Kuala Sungai Baru here.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday (Jan 5) for allegedly dealing in imitation firearms.
“The suspect has been importing unassembled air rifles from overseas and selling them to the locals through middlemen,” he said on Thursday (Jan 6).
DCP Abdul Majid said each of the air rifles was sold at RM3,500, and the suspect coaches buyers on how to assemble the air rifles by sending them videos.
“We discovered the suspect had sold four to five of these air rifles since 2019, and the buyers are currently being tracked.
“There is a possibility the air rifles were used for criminal acts,” he said, adding that the suspect, who also has a criminal record, is currently remanded to assist investigations under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960. ends
