JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor has dropped from 4,449 people at 8am to 3,985 at 4pm Thursday (Jan 6), with five temporary relief centres (PPS) closed in Segamat and Tangkak.

       State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that there were still five districts affected by floods, namely Segamat, Tangkak, Mersing, Muar and Batu Pahat.

       "As of 4pm, the total number of victims is 3,985 people from 1,088 families that are placed at 61 PPS in the affected district.

       "The highest number of victims are from Segamat, with 2,460 people, followed by Tangkak (739), Muar (714), Batu Pahat (53) and Mersing (19).

       "The sunny weather has also closed down five PPS, namely Balai Raya Taman Bintang Gemas Baru in Segamat, Sekolah Agama Bandar Tangkak, SK Sialang, Sekolah Agama Serom 8, and Sekolah Agama Kampung Belemang in Tangkak," he said in a statement here.

       He also shared that in Segamat, the most affected area was Kampung Simpang Loi, with 423 victims from 125 families placed at SK Tambang PPS.

       Vidyananthan also informed that there were six locations that were recording dangerous river level readings, namely Sungai Muar near Buloh Kasap, Kampung Olak Sepam, Sungai Gemas and Panchor in Segamat, and Sungai Liang Batu and Sungai Muar in Muar.

       A total of 10 roads in Segamat had also remained closed to all vehicles, namely Jalan Kuala Paya, Jalan Puting, Jalan Tumang, Jalan Jabi Kampung Bukit, Jalan Serakek, Jalan Tungku Tiga, Jalan Pogoh, Jalan Balai Polis Buluh Kasap, Jalan Senai - Gemas, and Jalan Felda Medoi.

       Two roads in Muar were also closed, namely Jalan Muar - Labis (Jambatan Sungai Tui), and Jalan Muar - Labis (Galeri Bukit Kepong), and one road was closed in Tangkak at Jalan Durian Condong.
