KUALA LUMPUR: Several parent-teacher associations (PTAs) have described the postponement of the school session for flood-affected educational institutions as the right decision.

National Parents and Teachers Association Consultative Council president Datuk Dr Mohamad Ali Hasan said the decision to postpone the opening of the school session for educational institutions used as relief centres (PPS) was appropriate to ensure the welfare and safety of flood victims.

“We need to prioritise the safety and welfare of flood victims at these schools. We do understand that students need to return to schools as soon as possible but we also need to have sympathy for those who need help,” Mohamad Ali told Bernama.Sungai Renggam Tamil National Type School board of governors chairman M. Sukumaran said the postponement would give sufficient time for affected students and families to make necessary preparations before schools reopen.

Although many of the teachers and students in the affected schools in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, had made initial preparations to return to school, he said most of their books and schooling items were damaged in the floods.
