Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced Friday the opening of four new mass one-day vaccination clinics in the Collar Counties and Metro East areas.

All three vaccine boosters will be available to any Illinois resident at the clinics with no appointment, no identification or health insurance required, according to a state news release.

The booster initiative is a joint effort of the governor, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency to address the growing demand of booster shots.

“Booster shots are a key part of keeping ourselves and our loved ones as healthy as possible this winter,” said Pritzker in the news release. “My administration is partnering with local health departments to make these free vaccines as accessible as possible for all eligible residents – which now includes Illinoisans 12 and up. This is another step forward for safe schools, safe businesses and safe communities for all.”

Earlier this week, IDPH adopted the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation to shorten the interval between the vaccine and boosters from six months to five months once for people have gotten two doses from Pfizer.

The booster interval remains the same for those who received the Moderna vaccine (6 months) or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for their primary series. While adults have the ability to mix-and-match their booster vaccine, 12- through 17-year-olds are only eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech booster, the release said.

Friday, a mass booster vaccine clinic occurred between 8:30 a.m to 6:30 p.m. in Will County at the Joliet Junior College.

Sunday, Jan. 9, a mass booster clinic was scheduled:

DuPage County at Addison Trail High School located at 213 N. Lombard Road, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Madison County at the SIUE Vadalabene Center located at 35 Circle Drive in Edwardsville, IL from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 16, a mass booster clinic was scheduled:

Kane County at Spring Hill Mall (near Kohls) located at 1072 Spring Hill Mall, West Dundee from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
