KUALA LUMPUR: Thirteen drivers have been arrested for allegedly being intoxicated behind the wheel during traffic operations here over the weekend.
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said in a statement the drivers were arrested during the operations from Friday (Jan 7) to Sunday (Jan 9).
“The 13 suspects, aged between 26 and 43, were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
"They have all been brought to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police station and will be charged," he said.
The same operations, held around the city area including Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Pahang, also saw eight people arrested for dangerous road use.
“They were riding their vehicles while performing dangerous stunts and racing each other. The suspects are aged between 15 and 21,” he said.
A total of 350 summonses were issued throughout the operations and nine motorcycles were confiscated for illegal modifications, he added.
“The City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department will continue heightening the scope of our operations on weekends to prevent and stop activities (of) road menaces, and to protect the safety of all road users,” he said.
