JOHOR BARU: A total of 3,714 flood evacuees from 1,063 families are still seeking shelter at flood relief centres in Johor.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said although clear, sunny weather has been reported throughout Johor, 47 flood relief centres remain open in Segamat, Muar, Tangkak and Batu Pahat as of 8am on Sunday (Jan 9).

“The number of flood evacuees has decreased slightly from the 3,770 people recorded at 4pm on Saturday (Jan 8)," he said.

Vidyananthan added that Segamat and Muar have the highest number of flood evacuees with 1,679 and 1,190 evacuees respectively followed by Tangkak (712) and Batu Pahat (133).

“The good news is that there are no warnings of strong winds and thunderstorms according to the Meteorology Department,” he said in a statement.

He added that Sungai Muar is at an alert level at four locations - Buloh Kasap (Segamat), Kampung Olak Sepam (Muar) and Panchor (Muar) and Bukit Kepong (Muar) remain in the red zone for dangerous levels, while Sungai Bekok (Batu Pahat) is at the alert level.
