A 42-year-old Mundelein-area man was killed Sunday night when he was run over by two cars as he lay in the roadway on Illinois Route 83, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
The identity of the man has not been released.
Police said he had been at a bar near the intersection of Illinois 60/83 and Taylor Lake Road, near Diamond Lake, and was likely walking home at around 10:50 p.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, police said, he laid down in the southbound lane of the highway and was subsequently struck by two motorists, neither of whom was hurt.
The man was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy has been scheduled, and authorities are continuing to investigate.
