KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's daily Covid-19 cases continue to show signs of stabilising but there is a concern about more children below 12 being infected with the virus, says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic).

       He said the 31 of the 161 new cases in Sabah involved children who were not yet eligible for the vaccinations.

       "Therefore, it is incumbent on parents and adult family members living with young children to take precautionary measures at home so as not to accidentally infect those at home.

       "Adults should always ensure that they take precautions when interacting with their children as they may not realise that they could be carrying the virus," added the state Covid-19 spokesman on Monday (Jan 10).

       Sabah recorded 161 new Covid-19 cases on Monday with a decrease of 37 cases compared to the previous day.

       Masidi said the current situation in all districts was showing a stabilisation phase except for some where daily cases fluctuate sharply almost every day.

       "While Kota Kinabalu City recorded 29 cases, a drop of 16 cases from Monday, the main areas across the state recorded high new cases.

       "Ranau again recorded a high number of cases with 28 cases including six from the Perkasa Hotel cluster," he said, adding that no new cases were recorded in eight districts while the other 14 districts saw less than 10 new cases each.

       Masidi said of the 161 new cases, 158 cases were in Category 1 and 2, one case in Category 3 and two cases in Category 4.

       As of Jan 9, the rate of infection for Sabah increased to 1.07 compared to the national rate of 0.98.

       "All parties are asked to abide by the standard operating procedures and advice from the Health Ministry," he said.
