       SAPPORO -- A middle-aged man and woman were found wounded and collapsed in a housing complex in this north Japan city on Jan. 10, with the woman later confirmed dead at a hospital.

       Police received an emergency call at around 4:30 p.m. from someone near the housing complex in Sapporo's Chuo Ward, who said they heard a woman crying for help. Hokkaido Prefectural Police's Sapporo Area Minami Police Station officers rushed to the scene, where they found the pair collapsed.

       According to the police station, both had what appeared to be blade wounds, and the man is receiving treatment. Based on the scene, officers believe no third party was involved. Police are investigating the case both as a potential incident or accident.
