THE Hindu community is shocked and furious that the Batu Gajah Land Office has issued an eviction notice to the Sri Siva Subramaniam Temple, Makkal Osai reported.
The temple near the rocky hills of Kampong Kepayang is said to be around 126 years old.
Temple committee chairman R. Sundararaju said they became concerned when Chinese and Buddhist temples were served with eviction notices, as was widely reported recently.
The committee, which is preparing for the Thaipusam festival a week away, is shocked as it is now facing the same fate as nearby temples, he said.
The temple has been there for more than a century and is registered with the authorities.
Sundararaju said it was unconscionable and saddening that the Land Office would resort to such a move at this time.
When the temple committee attempted to discuss the matter with the official who delivered the notice, they were told to bring it up with the upper management, he said.
