PETALING JAYA: A special parliamentary sitting must be held to debate the issue involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki, says Pakatan Harapan.
In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 12), the Pakatan presidential council suggested that the sitting be held a day before or after the special meeting to discuss flood issues in Parliament on Jan 20.
Pakatan also said that a new leadership is needed to spearhead the MACC advisory board and panel.
They added that the need for a new leader who is clean, professional and independent is important to restore MACC’s authority, integrity and credibility.
The council also urged Anti-corruption Commission Advisory Board (ACAB) chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang to step back until the investigation on Azam is complete.
“The media statement by the six ACAB members is the strongest proof that its board has lost their confidence in the chairman,” Pakatan said.
The statement, jointly signed by PKR, Amanah, DAP and Upko presidents, also urged the MACC advisory panel chairman Tan Sri Borhan Dolah to step aside until the investigation is completed.
They said that this is because Borhan had refused to investigate Azam despite the possibility of him breaching the law by allowing his share accounts to be used by his brother.
The Pakatan presidential council also expressed concerns about the statement made by three senior officials of the commission, saying that the statements by the three deputy commissioners could be construed as an attempt to influence the investigation process against Azam.
