KUALA LUMPUR: After teetering at between 0.96 to 0.99 since New Year’s Eve, Malaysia’s Covid-19 daily infectivity rate (Rt) has climbed up to a full 1.0 as of Tuesday (Jan 11).

Announcing this on social media, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed that Labuan’s infectivity rate is highest at 1.12, followed by Putrajaya at 1.08.

The more densely populated states are still below 1.0, with Selangor at 0.99, Penang at 0.97 and Johor at 0.98.

But Kuala Lumpur is now at 1.08.

The states with the lower Rt are Terengganu (0.85) and Sarawak (0.89).

The infectivity rate is an indication of possible increases of Covid-19 cases within a given area.

For it to be deemed as under control, the figure needs to be below 1.0.
