The northbound carriageway is shut from junction 2 - the M69 link - and Coventry east to junction 3 for central Coventry and Bedworth, Warwickshire. A driver is thought to be trapped in the debris after the collision, and the air ambulance has been called.

       Two road ambulances and a paramedic officer have also been sent to the scene.

       The fire service and West Midlands Police are said to be present.

       Drivers have been diverted off the M6 at junction 2 and onto the A46 and then the A45, which together make up the Coventry Bypass.

       They then must continue west on the A45 to Stonebridge, where they can rejoin the motorway at junction 4 near Coleshill, Warwickshire.

       The A45 is consequently very busy too, reports Coventry Live.

       Traffic on the M6 is back to junction 1 for Rugby, Warwickshire, at the moment.

       Southbound traffic is slow but moving, largely due to onlookers.

       It's particularly congested on the approach to junction 2 from around Corley Services.

       There isn't a diversion in place, though, for southbound motorists.

       The M6 - the longest motorway in the UK at more than 230 miles - runs northwest from Rugby to Cumbria, becoming the A74(M) just before the Scottish border.
