KOTA TINGGI: Eight foreign immigrants were detained by Army personnel after entering the country illegally via a sea route.
The Third Malaysian Infantry Division headquarters said the illegals from Indonesia were spotted heading towards the shore at Kampung Masjid, Teluk Ramunia here at around 2.40am on Monday (Jan 17).
“A team from our Quick Reaction Force was sent to the area and managed to catch six of them at around 3.10am while another two were arrested four hours later,” he said.
In a statement, the Army said the suspects, comprising five men and three women were aged from 30 to 49 and had mobile devices worth about RM4,800, jewellery, a watch and Indonesian currency.
All eight tested negative for Covid-19 at the Sungai Rengit health clinic before they were sent to the Immigration Department Complex in Setia Tropika, Johor Baru.
