SEREMBAN: A clerk in Bahau has been cheated of RM132,000 in an online "predict-the-score" football game, says the police.

Jempol OCPD Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the victim started playing the game on Jan 13 after being introduced to it by a friend.

"Based on the rules of the game, the person playing the game will get 2% of the capital he or she had with the company if they were able to correctly predict a score.

"The victim then opened five accounts through an application to play the game and transferred the money online to a bank account supposedly belonging to a trading company," he said.

On Jan 16, the victim tried to withdraw her winnings but was unable to do so.

The capital she had put in had also disappeared.

"It was only then she realised that she had been conned," he said, adding that she then lodged a police report.

The case is being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

The offence carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
