PUTRAJAYA: The standard operating procedure announced for the Chinese New Year allows for a merrier celebration, but those celebrating are reminded to follow standard operating procedures at all times, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said this year’s ushering of the Year of the Tiger would be different compared to last year’s celebration.
This year, he noted, celebrations could take place but reminded the public on the importance of SOP compliance.
"I hope this is good news but what is most important is that we still take care of ourselves and comply with the SOP," he said at a joint press conference with National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique to announce SOP for Chinese New Year on Wednesday (Jan 19).
Dr Wee, who was also Transport Minister, commended Halimah for the SOP, adding that three rounds of discussions were held before it was drawn up.
"We want to make sure that we are here to facilitate, not to restrict.
"I must commend Datuk Halimah for the hard work and engagements with stakeholders to discuss on the SOP," he said.
