MELAKA: Two Covid-19 clusters involving college students have emerged here, with 87 cases recorded.

       Melaka health and anti-drug committee chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the clusters were in the Melaka Tengah and Jasin districts.

       “The first case at a college in Melaka Tengah was triggered by a female student who entered her hostel on Jan 11.

       “We screened 176 students and 76 tested positive. All of them have completed their vaccinations,” he said here on Wednesday (Jan 19).

       Dr Muhamad Akmal said the college had been directed to cease operations until Jan 21.

       Meanwhile, he said 11 students at a college in Jasin also tested positive.

       He said the case in Jasin was triggered by a female student who registered to enter the hostel earlier this month.

       He said 536 students and staff of the college had been screened, with 11 testing positive while 33 others are waiting for their results.

       “We are currently monitoring the situation and will decide if the college needs to temporarily cease operations.

       “Luckily, all the students and staff have been fully vaccinated,” he added.
