PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has pledged better cooperation with his Sarawak counterpart, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin to ensure better policies for the benefit of Sarawakians.

“YB Lee and I have pledged to work closely together to reduce barriers and to make it easier for both ministries to work together for the people.

“I also thanked Lee for his help in coordinating with Sarawak’s state disaster management committee to increase the frequency of flights between Kuala Lumpur and several Sarawak towns and thus, lower airfares,” said Dr Wee in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 19).

Dr Wee also said the Transport Ministry had pledged to share its knowledge with Sarawak’s Transport Ministry on various matters.

“For example, our Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) will be on hand to help upgrade Sarawak’s Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) into a full-fledged regulator of land transport in Sarawak.”

Dr Wee also welcomed Lee and his delegation for a familiarisation tour of the Transport Ministry and its agencies in Putrajaya from Jan 18 to 20.

Among those who attended the tour of the Transport Ministry were Sarawak’s Assistant Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and permanent secretary Datu Buckland Bangik, among others.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Henry Sum Agong and secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak were also present, and held a dialogue with Lee’s delegation from Sarawak to review several issues affecting transport users and infrastructures in the state.
