PETALING JAYA: More than 98%, or 3,191 out of 3,229 individuals who tested positive for Covid-19, consist of asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic patients in the Categories of 1 and 2, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said merely 38 or 1.2% of the cases reported yesterday were from Categories 3, 4, and 5 (the most severe category).
He added that the total figure consists of 2,990 domestic cases and 239 imported cases, which is made up of 175 citizens and 64 foreigners.
The number of recoveries stood at 2,848 as of yesterday, while 20 new clusters were reported, bringing forward the amount of active clusters to 201, he said in his daily statement.
He added that 162 cases needed treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 76 individuals requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the R-nought level (R0) or infectivity rate for Perlis, Labuan, Putrajaya and Sarawak remained at zero.
The R0 for Terengganu (0.78), Kelantan (0.9), Perak (0.94), Penang (0.96), Pahang (0.97), remained below 1, he said.
He also urged Malaysians to get vaccinated against Covid-19 to protect their fellow countrymen.
“The Health Ministry will ensure that preventative steps and adequate control measures can be continued to be implemented,” he said.
